Balancing Whole Life Carbon in BC Step Code Buildings-webinar replay

Did you miss our ZEBx Decarb Lunch? The recording is now available!

Last month, Martina & Hugh joined Ralph Wells from UBC to present groundbreaking findings on whole-life carbon in BC Step Code buildings. If you couldn't attend live, you can now watch the full presentation at your convenience.

Our team at reLoad, in partnership with Ryder Architecture Canada, Glotman Simpson Consulting Engineers, and Heatherbrae Builders, completed a comprehensive study examining two MURB archetypes. We used parametric analysis to explore how different BC Energy Step Code levels and the Zero Carbon Step Code impact both whole-life carbon and costs.

Key topics covered in the presentation:

🔹 How envelope design choices influence embodied and operational carbon
🔹Carbon performance comparison between mid-rise and high-rise construction methods
🔹When higher Step Code levels actually reduce whole-life carbon (and when they don't)
🔹What these findings mean for future zero-carbon building pathways

This research reveals critical insights about the relationship between thermal envelope performance, material selection, and holistic design strategy.
